Orders to Fort Meade? If you’re not from the area, the number of lodging options can be daunting. You may be concerned that realtors and rental agencies misplaced the commas and you are undoubtedly worried about traffic. All of these things are super important when house hunting, or even just finding a temporary rental in the area.
Fort Meade is pretty close to smack-dab in the middle of Baltimore and Washington, D.C. Many military families have found lodging in the Severn, Columbia, Laurel, Glen Burnie, Odenton, and even Bowie areas. Houses range from apartments to single-family homes, often in the same neighborhoods. Space is a commodity here, so most lodging is more than one story.
Traffic
Traffic is real here in the Fort Meade area. In fact, there’s a running joke that says you can live close to Ft Meade and have to work another job to pay your mortgage, or you can buy a house you can afford and drive two hours each way to work. You don’t want to rush into anything, so staying at a Military Crashpad® while you get the lay of the land is a great option. You’ll be able to learn the traffic patterns, look at neighborhoods, and even determine your work schedule all before buying or renting.
Schools & Work Locations
If your children are in school and/or your spouse is looking to continue their career, Fort Meade is full of great options. But you’ll need to look at school districts very carefully. Howard County has excellent schools, as do the areas closer to Annapolis. But, redistricting can quickly occur, and you’ll want to be sure before you find lodging in the area.
Being so close to Washington, D.C., Baltimore, and Annapolis means a lot of jobs for your spouse. Again, keep in mind traffic patterns and work locations when settling on your Ft Meade lodging. Public transportation can help with some of the commute times, as can carpooling or slug lines.
Fun things to do
One great benefit to visiting Ft Meade, or even living there, is the proximity to all of the things. The Smithsonian and National Mall on one side, and Baltimore’s Inner Harbor on the other. Annapolis is another great place to explore. If you’re into sports, you can find a team for each sport here. Minor league baseball team, the Bowie Baysox, are great to watch in the summer, and Navy football can take over Annapolis in the fall.
While you’re here, you simply must try the local seafood. Nothing compares to fresh crab served in Maryland! If you’re adventurous, you could even bring some back to your Crash Pad and cook up a feast for your family and friends.
Make sure you keep these things in mind when searching for your Fort Meade lodging options. And don’t rush into things, we’ve got a great place for you to stay while you’re deciding. Check out our Ft Meade Crashpad here.
